Urgent call for blood donations in times of pandemic
Small winter surprise for all blood donors in December
The Blood Donation Center at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg is appealing to the public for solidarity. "We are seeing a drop in donor numbers as a result of the coronavirus pandemic and that the blood bank is becoming increasingly depleted," explains Dr. Markus Umhau, Medical Director of the Blood Donation Center. "Especially in view of the public holidays, when it is not possible to donate, we are urging people to come and donate blood in the coming weeks."
Clear safety regulations have been in place at the blood donation center since the start of the coronavirus pandemic: donors' health status and risk factors are checked at the entrance before they enter the donation center. In the building, safety distances, compulsory masks and continuous ventilation ensure the protection of donors and employees.
If possible, blood donors should make an appointment to ensure that everything runs smoothly. However, spontaneous donations are possible.
A little winter surprise in December
Anyone who helps to fill the blood bank will receive a small winter surprise to enjoy at home from December. All healthy people between the ages of 18 and 72 can donate (first-time donors up to the age of 64). Men can donate every two months, women every three months.
