Double windfall for cancer research

The Fördergesellschaft Forschung Tumorbiologie e.V. at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg is delighted to receive two donation checks / More than 22,000 euros thanks to vine sponsors and donated wine

The Fördergesellschaft Forschung Tumorbiologie e.V. at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg is delighted with two donation cheques that were handed over at the end of November at the Staatsweingut Freiburg. The first donation check in the amount of 21,000 euros was presented to the Fördergesellschaft by Staatsweingut Freiburg. The money comes from the vine sponsorships from July 2020 to June 2021 (20,000 euros) as well as from the sale of individual sponsored wines, of which the Staatsweingut Freiburg donates one euro per bottle to the association (around 1,000 euros).

The charity received the second donation check from the Herzschlag Freiburg initiative in the amount of 1,600 euros. Herzschlag Freiburg is an association of nine traditional retailers in Freiburg city center. The donation was raised through the sale of the so-called Herzschlag wine. For every bottle sold, two euros are collected for the Fördergesellschaft Forschung Tumorbiologie. New grape varieties were bred and developed for the Herzschlag wine at the Freiburg State Wine Institute.

"We are very grateful to receive such active support from the Staatsweingut Freiburg and the Herzschlag Freiburg initiative so that we can continue to support patient support projects in the future," said Prof. Dr. Hans Helge Bartsch, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Fördergesellschaft Forschung Tumorbiologie e.V. at the cheque handover.

Funding for two projects

The aim of the Fördergesellschaft Forschung Tumorbiologie e.V. is to support science, research and therapy in the field of cancer medicine. These donations will therefore be used for two projects selected by the Fördergesellschaft. Firstly, for the research focus "Liquid Biopsy" at the Comprehensive Cancer Center Freiburg - CCCF of the Medical Center - University of Freiburg. The liquid biopsy procedure, in which genetic material is isolated and sequenced from the blood of cancer patients, is intended to enable more sensitive cancer diagnostics and evaluation of the success of therapy. The aim is to detect cancers earlier, tailor therapies more precisely to the patient and expand aftercare options.

On the other hand, part of the donations will go to the "Self-help research" project at the Comprehensive Cancer Center Freiburg - CCCF. Former cancer patients trained as "self-help coaches" support cancer patients in the acute and rehabilitation phase in the form of discussions. Self-help groups pool experience and develop joint strategies for coping with everyday life. Self-help research supports, monitors and analyzes the effectiveness of these measures and conducts in-depth training courses.

The vine sponsorship

The Freiburg State Winery has planted a "vineyard for research" on the Blankenhornsberg near Ihringen am Kaiserstuhl. Interested parties can sponsor the Pinot Noir vines growing there. 60 percent of the proceeds from each sponsorship will be donated to the Fördergesellschaft Forschung Tumorbiologie e.V. and will go directly to cancer research and the support of cancer patients. As a sponsor, you will receive the exclusive sponsored wine, an invitation to the sponsors' meeting and attractive offers from the Freiburg State Winery every year. The sponsored wine can also be purchased by the bottle from the Staatsweingut without sponsorship. For every bottle sold, the Staatsweingut donates one euro to the Fördergesellschaft Forschung Tumorbiologie. Further information at: www.rebpate.de
