Prof. Dr. Tobias Böttler, Senior Physician at the Department of Medicine II at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg is a fellow of the Else Kröner-Fresenius Foundation for two years

The Else Kröner-Fresenius Foundation, based in Bad Homburg, regularly awards excellence scholarships in the field of medicine. The prerequisites are outstanding research achievements and responsible work in a clinical function. In December 2021, Prof. Dr. Tobias Böttler, Senior Physician at the Department of Medicine II at the University Hospital and Deputy Head of the Gerok Liver Center, was accepted for funding for his excellent research in the field of hepatology and immunology. As a fellow of the Else Kröner-Fresenius Foundation, he will have the opportunity to focus intensively on a scientific research project alongside his clinical work for two years. Based on his preliminary work on immunodeficiency in patients with advanced liver disease and on the immune response to influenza and SARS-CoV-2 vaccinations, a planned study will investigate the mechanisms that lead to a poorer response to vaccinations in patients with severe liver disease. The scholarship is endowed with a total of 330,000 euros.
