Department of Cardiology and Angiology II certified as an atrial fibrillation center

The clinic at the Bad Krozingen campus of the Medical Center - University of Freiburg was one of only a few clinics in Germany to receive this award

As one of the first 20 centers in Germany, the Department of Cardiology and Angiology II at the Bad Krozingen Campus of the Medical Center - University of Freiburg was certified by the German Society of Cardiology - Cardiovascular Research e.V. (DGK) as an atrial fibrillation center (VHF) in December. The certification is valid for the next three years.

The DGK statement reads: "Unrestricted recommendation for certification, experienced center with a proven team of experts."

Atrial fibrillation is one of the most common cardiac arrhythmias, in which the heart beats continuously and irregularly. The uncontrolled heartbeat can lead to blood clots. If the clots get out of the heart and into the blood vessels, this can have serious consequences - such as a stroke. Atrial fibrillation can have various causes: old age, high blood pressure and some heart diseases. However, diabetes mellitus, hyperthyroidism, excessive alcohol consumption and obesity can also trigger atrial fibrillation.
