Around 85,000 euros have so far been donated to the Medical Center - University of Freiburg for emergency medical aid in Ukraine / The second transport to Ukraine started on March 15 and further deliveries are being prepared

Hospitals in Ukraine lack many vital medicines, bandages and medical equipment due to the war. This is why the Medical Center - University of Freiburg began providing emergency medical aid immediately after the outbreak of war in Ukraine and sent the second transport of medical supplies to Ukraine on Tuesday, March 15, 2022. The shipment included valuable medicines for children with cancer and immunodeficiency in the children's hospital in Lviv, Freiburg's twin city in Ukraine. A first transport had already been sent to Ukraine on March 4 with medicines, a mobile anesthesia machine, ventilators, surgical instruments and bandages. Further medical aid shipments are planned for the next few days, including important medication for epilepsy patients. This was made possible above all by the great willingness to donate. More than 85,000 euros have been donated by employees of the University Hospital, companies, church congregations and many members of the public.

Help from heart center to heart center

A transport will also leave for the Kiev Heart Center in the next few days. "These medicines are urgently needed in Kiev. Our help from heart center to heart center is a small contribution to stabilizing the situation on the ground," says Prof. Dr. Bartos Rylski, senior physician at the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg, who is organizing this aid delivery. Further aid deliveries will be used to support the emergency care of injured people, among other things.
