"Freiburg Evening Lectures" for those interested in medicine start

Popular summer lecture series dedicated to the health of teeth, skull and jaw / Experts give medical enthusiasts insights into their respective fields / Free admission


The "Freiburg Evening Lectures" at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg are finally taking place again after a two-year break. In June and July 2022, they will focus on the health of the teeth, skull and jaw. The first lecture evening is on

Thursday, June 30, 2022
at 6.30 pm in the lecture hall of the University Women's Hospital,
Hugstetter Straße 55, University of Freiburg

Admission is free. Registration is not required. It is mandatory to wear an FFP2 masks.

The following two "Freiburg Evening Lectures" will take place on Thursday, July 7, 2022 and Wednesday, July 13, 2022, both starting at 6:30 p.m. in the lecture hall of the University of Freiburg Women's Hospital . At all three evening lectures, the speakers will answer questions from the audience. The evenings will end with drinks, snacks and discussions with the experts in the clinic park in front of the Women's Clinic.

Healthy teeth into old age

The first evening lecture on Thursday, June 30, 2022 will focus on the topic: "Healthy teeth - for a lifetime?" Bleeding gums are often the result of gum inflammation, known as periodontitis. This is the most common cause of tooth loss. Caries can also have serious consequences, but can be prevented or treated with the right hygiene. Prof. Dr. Elmar Hellwig, Medical Director of the Department of Operative Dentistry and Periodontology at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg, and Prof. Dr. Petra Ratka-Krüger, Head of the Department of Periodontology, will report on the measures that really make a difference and how age-appropriate caries and periodontitis prevention can be successful from kindergarten age to old age.

Innovative imaging and 3D planning: gentle operations on the skull and jaw

At the second evening lecture on Thursday, July 7, 2022, experts led by Prof. Dr. Rainer Schmelzeisen, Medical Director of the Department of Oral, Maxillofacial, and Regional Plastic Surgery at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg, will provide information in the lecture "Gentle surgery thanks to high-tech & 3D" on how even highly complex operations on the skull and jaw can be performed gently, safely and almost invisibly with the help of innovative planning and imaging methods. Among other things, the focus will be on correcting malpositioned jaws and tumor operations.

New possibilities in dental prosthetics and orthodontics

The third evening lecture on Wednesday, July 13, 2022 will be held by experts from the Department of Orthodontics and the Department of Prosthetic Dentistry at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg. In the first lecture, "Digital to dentures?", Prof. Dr. Benedikt Spies, Medical Director of the Department of Prosthetic Dentistry at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg, will present digital, contactless impression procedures and explain how 3D printing and other digital processes are used to produce custom-fit dentures. In the lecture "Tooth correction for adults: Is it possible?", Prof. Dr. Britta Jung, Medical Director of the Department of Orthodontics at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg, will report, among other things, on which treatment options for tooth correction are possible and sensible for adults and older people. The focus will be on pronounced jaw misalignments, misaligned incisors and the correction of gaps and crowding.
