5,600 euros will go to the Freiburg Association for the Help of Mentally Ill Children and Young People / The donations come from the Freiburg Advent running series

Last year, the Freiburg Advent running series raised a total of 5,600 euros, which has now been donated to the Freiburg Association for the Help of Mentally Ill Children and Adolescents. The symbolic cheque was handed over at the end of August 2022 in the garden of the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg.

The money was collected during the "Freiburg Advent Run Series" sponsored run at the end of 2021. Participants in the run were able to make a voluntary donation or find sponsors who donated an amount for each kilometer they ran or walked. Among other things, the association is using the donations to support the planned structural expansion of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Department at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg. "We absolutely want and need to expand our therapeutic services for affected children and adolescents. To do this, we need more space. We are therefore very pleased to receive any financial support," says Prof. Dr. Christian Fleischhaker, Acting Medical Director of the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg.

"During the pandemic, many opportunities for social contact, such as sports activities, have been completely eliminated. This has further increased the need for psychotherapeutic care," adds Dr. Madeleine Zimmermann, Senior Physician in the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics. "We are delighted that a sporting event like the Freiburg Advent running series is drawing attention to the needs of children and young people with mental illnesses and supporting us with their donation." In addition to their work at the hospital, Fleischhaker and Zimmermann are also involved in the Freiburg Association for the Help of Mentally Ill Children and Adolescents (Freiburger Vereinigung zur Hilfe für psychisch kranke Kinder und Jugendliche e.V.) as second chairman and assessor respectively.
