Christmas donation for mentally ill children and young people

Freiburg's OBI-Baumarkt Nord donates to the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg

The staff at the OBI DIY store in Freiburg Nord collected money for a charitable cause. The store management was enthusiastic about the campaign and topped up the donation. On Friday, 23 December 2022, Gzim Nuredini, Mareike Danzeisen, Silke Limberger and the OBI beaver mascot handed over a donation of around 1,000 euros, consisting of a donation cheque and many donations in kind, to Dr. Martin Sieber, 1st Chairman, Prof. Dr. Christian Fleischhaker, 2nd Chairman, and Dr. Madeleine Zimmermann, assessor, for the Freiburger Vereinigung zur Hilfe für psychisch kranke Kinder und Jugendliche e.V. and to the children and adolescents currently undergoing inpatient or day-care treatment at the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg. Each patient received a small gift thanks to the donation.

"This Christmas surprise brings a bit of Christmas cheer and normality to everyday life at the clinic for the patients who have to spend the holidays there," says senior physician Madeleine Zimmermann. Martin Sieber is pleased that the wards and day clinics also receive gifts for everyday needs - for example in the form of pillows, books, vouchers, games or puzzles - "this is exactly what our association stands for - helping unbureaucratically and in the right place". "In these turbulent times, a campaign like this is a welcome change for the children and young people in the clinic," added Fleischhaker, thanking OBI-Nord on behalf of the Freiburg association for its willingness to donate.

The Freiburger Vereinigung zur Hilfe für psychisch kranke Kinder und Jugendliche e.V. has been providing unbureaucratic support since 1976 when meaningful measures for mentally ill children and young people are not financed by health insurance or the youth welfare office. Originally, the focus was on children and adolescents on the wards of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Department at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg. In the meantime, the activities also include the field of outpatient treatment and, in particular, prevention.
