New partnership: pupils discover healthcare professions

Students at the vocational school in Bad Krozingen gain insights into nursing care, medical and non-medical training professions at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg

On July 28, 2023, the vocational school in Bad Krozingen and the Medical Center - University of Freiburg signed an agreement on closer cooperation. The aim of the cooperation is to provide students at the vocational school in Bad Krozingen with exciting insights into the diverse healthcare professions, particularly in nursing care and other medical and non-medical training professions at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg.

The cooperation agreement will come into force at the start of the 2023/2024 school year and will provide students with a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in the healthcare sector during their time at school. Employees of the Medical Center - University of Freiburg will regularly provide information about training and study opportunities at the hospital. In addition, extensive internship opportunities and excursions are planned for those interested in training.

"We are very pleased to be able to work together with the vocational school in Bad Krozingen," says Helmut Schiffer, Nursing Director of the Medical Center - University of Freiburg. "It is particularly important to us to show the next generation the diversity and development opportunities in the healthcare and nursing professions at an early stage."

Dorothea Störr-Ritter, District Administrator of the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district, is also delighted with the new partnership: "As a school authority, we are very pleased about this cooperation in our district. It is an investment in the future of our young people and ultimately in the healthcare system in our region."

"We are certain that the pupils will benefit from the internship opportunities and information events. The personal contact with the training managers at our Academy should also make it easier for them to start their training," says Franz-Josef Overhoff, Head of the Academy for Medical Professions at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg, who is coordinating the cooperation on behalf of the hospital. With more than 1,200 trainees, the Academy for Medical Professions is one of the largest educational institutions in the healthcare professions in Germany.

"This partnership is an excellent opportunity for our students to gain their first practical insights into the medical field and explore potential career paths," emphasizes Dr. Christine Seifert, head of the vocational school in Bad Krozingen. "The agreement is a real benefit for our students and opens up new prospects for them in the healthcare sector."
