Numerous campaigns for Resuscitation Day

On October 16, World Resuscitation Day, a free resuscitation course for laypeople will be offered in Bad Krozingen / A school project on resuscitation will also be launched with around 100 pupils at a vocational school

In the mine, at school or in the office: a sudden cardiovascular arrest can occur anywhere and at any time. Unfortunately, many people do not know the life-saving measures or hesitate to use them in an emergency. That's why the University Heart Center - University of Freiburg Medical Center is training people in a wide variety of places on Wednesday, October 16, 2024to mark Action Week and International Resuscitation Day and is offering a free resuscitation course for laypeople on the day itself. The aim is to raise awareness of the importance of out-of-hospital cardiovascular arrests and the willingness of the general public to provide assistance.

The free resuscitation course for laypeople and first aiders will take place from 7 pm to 9 pm in the auditorium of the University Heart Center at Südring 15 in Bad Krozingen. Registration is not required.

An unusual location for resuscitation training

On September 25, employees of the University Heart Center trained the Bergbaufreunde Münstertal e.V. and interested partiesin the Teufelsgrund visitor mine at a depth of over 500m. The German Resuscitation Council had called for campaigns at unusual and spectacular locations to further raise awareness of first aid for cardiac arrests among the population.

Also on Resuscitation Day on October 16 at 11:30 a.m., experts from the University Heart Center and the German Red Cross in Müllheim will train 100 students simultaneously in simplified resuscitation - "check, call, press" - on training dummies in the foyer of the vocational school center in Bad Krozingen. Representatives of the press are invited by appointment. This campaign marks the start of a long-term partnership. Resuscitation training has been carried out at various schools in Bad Krozingen since 2008 as part of the "Wir machen Schule" project.

Simple measures with a big impact

Cardiovascular arrest is one of the most common causes of death in Germany. Starting resuscitation immediately can increase the chances of survival of those affected many times over. However, only around 40 percent of first aiders start with chest compressions. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation courses help to maintain knowledge and reduce inhibitions. The simple rule of thumb "check, call, push" can help save lives in an emergency.
