Reading about life with bipolar disorder

On May 13, the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at the University Medical Center Freiburg invites you to a reading with psychiatrist Dr. Astrid Freisen

Bipolar disorder is a serious mental illness and is often associated with major misunderstandings and prejudices. On Tuesday, 13 May 2025 at 7 pm, psychiatrist and patient Dr. Astrid Freisen will be reading from her book "Wir fliegen hoch, wir fallen tief" (We fly high, we fall low) in the Gartensaal of the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at the University Medical Center Freiburg, Hauptstraße 5. In it, she describes how she managed to work as a doctor again despite her own illness and gives patients and interested parties insights into dealing with manic and depressive phases. Admission is free, registration is not required.

"Ms. Freisen knows bipolar disorder not only from a doctor's perspective, but also from her own experience. This perspective enables her to accompany patients in a very special way and gives us as colleagues valuable insights into how we can better understand and support those affected," says Prof. Dr. Claus Normann, Section Head at the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at the Freiburg University Medical Center. Together with Freisen, he will be available for questions and discussions after the reading.
