The German Society for Ear, Nose and Throat Medicine honors Prof. Dr. Roland Laszig for decades of commitment

Prof. Dr. Roland Laszig, former Director of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology at Freiburg University Hospital, has been made an honorary member of the German Society for Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery (DGHNO-KHC). The specialist society is thus recognizing his scientific contribution to ENT medicine. The award was announced at this year's annual meeting in Frankfurt at the end of May.

"This award fills me with great gratitude. It is not only a personal honor, but also an expression of appreciation for the dedicated work of many colleagues with whom I have been able to shape the development of ENT medicine over many years," says Laszig.

Many years of commitment at the highest level

After his appointment at the University Medical Center Freiburg in 1993, Laszig founded the Implant Center there and developed it into a state-wide competence center for Baden-Württemberg. One focus was the cochlear implant - an electronic hearing system that gives deaf children access to spoken language. This technology enables affected children to hear, understand language and learn to speak for the first time.

Laszig was also active for many years in a leading role within the professional association - including as President (2010/2011) and Secretary General (2012/2013 - 2016/2017). He gave the renowned "Wullstein Lecture" back in 2017 and was awarded the "Wullstein Plate". The honorary membership now recognizes his lasting influence on research and professional exchange in the field of ear, nose and throat medicine.
