(13.11.2025) Clarivate ranking confirms Freiburg University Medical Center's leading international position in research.

Six scientists from the Medical Center - University of Freiburg are among the Highly Cited Researchers 2025, making them some of the most influential researchers in the world. The award is presented annually by Clarivate Analytics and is based on the most frequently cited scientific publications in the Web of Science database. It is regarded as an important indicator of scientific excellence and international visibility in medical research.

Research focuses with global relevance

The awards were presented to Prof. Dr. Bertram Bengsch, Section Head at the Department of Medicine II, Prof. Dr. Janbernd Kirschner, Medical Director of the Department of Neuropediatrics and Muscle Disorders, Prof. Dr. Jörg Meerpohl, Medical Director of the Institute for Evidence in Medicine, Prof. Dr. Marco Prinz, Medical Director of the Institute of Neuropathology and PD Dr. Roman Sankowski, Senior Physician at the Institute of Neuropathology, as well as PD Dr. Florian Scherer, Senior Physician at the Institute of Neuropathology. Also listed is PD Dr. Ori Staszewski, former senior physician at the Institute of Neuropathology and still associated with teaching duties at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg. The researchers stand for internationally recognized excellence in immunology, neurology, oncology and evidence-based medicine. Their work contributes to a better understanding of disease mechanisms and the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
