The Department of General and Visceral Surgery (Head: Prof. Dr. Stefan Fichtner-Feigl) invites talented and highly gifted candidates to apply as Postdoctoral Researcher (m/f/d) in Bioinformatics in the DFG-funded collaborative research center TRR417 starting at October 2025 for three years initially with a possibility for extension.

Research area:

The Research Group Oncoimmunology belongs to the Department of General and Visceral Surgery and is led by PD Dr. Rebecca Kesselring. Our research group addresses fundamental questions about the modulation of immune responses in the tumor microenvironment of visceral cancer. We focus on the impact of immune cells on the progression of colorectal cancer both in basic and translational research. Another key goal is to identify the impact of intestinal microbiota on pathogenesis of visceral cancer. We utilise multi-disciplinary approaches to answer these key questions including; immunology, oncology (in vitro model-organoid systems, ex vivo tissue culture), microbiology, next generation sequencing (16S seq, RNA seq, single cell sequencing, spatial transcriptomics), bioinformatics tools and human studies.

Your profile:  

  • PhD in bioinformatics, oncology or computational biology
  • profound experience in system biology and research interest in immunology and oncology
  • independent worker open to adapt and develop novel technologies and methodologies
  • knowledge in bioinformatics and data analysis and system biololgy
  • motivated with strong interest and substantial knowledge in oncology and bioinformatics
  • collaborative skills are fundamental prerequisites
