Lecture series: Corona crisis and mental health
The joint lecture series "Corona Crisis and Mental Health" of the Medical Center - University of Freiburg and the Freiburg Alliance Against Depression e.V. starts on January 25, 2021
Even people who do not contract COVID-19 themselves are exposed to a variety of stressors during the coronavirus pandemic: Fear of infection, strict contact restrictions, quarantine, lockdown, school, business and company closures. But what impact is the pandemic and the necessary countermeasures having on mental health? And what social and individual protective measures against pandemic-related mental stress can help? The "Corona Crisis and Mental Health" series of events organized by the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg in cooperation with the Freiburg Alliance against Depression e.V. will address these questions over the course of five lecture evenings.
Prof. Dr. Dr. Katharina Domschke, Medical Director of the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg and Board of Directors of the Freiburger Bündnis gegen Depression e.V., will kick things off with the lecture "Pandemic Panic: Between Appropriate Worry and Anxiety Disorder" on Monday, January 25, 2021 from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm.
While the lectures on the first two dates will deal with the disorders of anxiety and depression in the pandemic, the two lectures in the second block will shed light on the psychosocial stress and stress strategies of families with young children and people in old age. The final lecture will deal with the effects of a COVID-19 infection on the mental health of those affected.
