New Hip, New Knee: Information Session on Modern Joint Replacement Surgery

Event hosted by the Department of Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery on September 22, 2026 / Information on hip and knee replacements / Personal discussions with experts


The Comprehensive Care Endoprosthetics Center at the Department of Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery of the Medical Center – University of Freiburg invites you to a free informational event on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The event will take place in thelecture hall ofthe Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Medical Center – University of Freiburg. Under the theme “New Hip, New Knee—Regaining Mobility and Quality of Life Thanks to State-of-the-Art Joint Replacement,” patients and interested individuals will learn about treatment options for severe hip and knee pain caused by osteoarthritis. Experts will explain minimally invasive surgical procedures, modern implants, and structured treatment plans. Registration is requested.

“Many patients want to know when an artificial joint is appropriate and what to expect before and after the procedure. We want to explain the various options in an understandable way and provide participants with a reliable basis for their personal decision,” says Dr. Moritz Mayr, Head of the Endoprosthetics Section at the Department of Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery at the Medical Center – University of Freiburg. 

Modern Treatment from Planning to Rehabilitation

Experts from the Medical Center – University of Freiburg will provide information on navigation-guided knee surgeries, muscle-preserving hip surgeries, and modern short-shaft implants. Additional presentations will cover preparation for surgery, rapid recovery after the procedure, as well as nursing care, physical therapy, and rehabilitation.

A patient testimonial also details one patient’s experience with a new hip joint. Following the presentations, visitors will have the opportunity to speak personally with the treatment team. In the library of the Women’s Clinic, prosthetic models, motion splints, and other visual aids will be on display. In addition, a live demonstration of navigation during a total knee replacement (TKR) will be performed on a model.
