Emergency medical aid for Ukraine

Due to the war, hospitals in Ukraine lack many essential medicines, bandages and medical equipment. This is why the Uniklinik Freiburg began providing emergency medical aid as soon as the war broke out in Ukraine.

In the meantime, several shipments have arrived on site, including valuable medicines for children with cancer and immunocompromised children in the children's hospital in Lviv, Freiburg's twin city in the Ukraine. The University Heart Center has campaigned for a delivery of urgently needed medicines to the Kiev Heart Center.

COVID-19 support program at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg

In order to cope with the coronavirus pandemic, many internal processes at Uniklinik Freiburg had to be changed: For example, the serving of food in the staff canteen had to be stopped for several weeks and the occupancy of many wards was restructured to create separate areas for COVID-19 patients.

In particular, staff working on the wards with Covid-19 infected patients are facing exceptionally challenging (working) hours and new procedures. A comprehensive support program has been launched for these wards: Food delivered directly to the wards several times a day, coffee machines and the installation of new rest rooms under special hygiene rules. Donating to the support program was a quick and effective way to do something good for our employees.

However, the donations also benefited inpatients. Due to the strict visiting regulations for hospitals during the coronavirus pandemic, personal contact with loved ones is only possible to a very limited extent for inpatients. Thanks to the donations, several wards at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg have tablets that patients can use to talk to their relatives via video call.

The following pictures give an insight into what we were able to achieve together:

Social Fund of the Medical Center - University of Freiburg

The employees of the Social Services Department at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg have set up a social fund for patients. People who are unemployed or on a low income are particularly affected by the financial losses that (chronic) illnesses can entail. The social service advises patients and relatives in a wide range of situations and works with them to develop individual help and support options. Sometimes, however, the most basic necessities are lacking and it takes time for applications to be approved. Help is often needed quickly. In such cases, even small amounts of money can help to alleviate illness-related hardship.

Under the motto "Making the obvious possible", the Uniklinik Freiburg Social Fund has been helping patients in financial need for 11 years.
