Interdisciplinary gastrointestinal endoscopy
The Interdisciplinary Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (IGE) department carries out around 12,000 examinations every year. In addition to diagnostic examinations of the gastrointestinal tract (gastroscopy and colonoscopy), therapeutic or interventional endoscopy is a particular focus. The insertion of tiny probes fitted with cameras not only enables images of the organs to be taken, but also allows direct treatment inside the body.
Qualified specialists carry out the procedures. They have state-of-the-art technology at their disposal. Cooperation with other specialist disciplines guarantees treatment at the highest level. In addition to standard and special endoscopic methods, new therapeutic procedures are regularly developed and evaluated as part of clinical studies.
The examinations and procedures are usually performed under short anesthesia, even for outpatients, which means that the patient is deeply asleep during the endoscopy and does not experience any pain. The administration of medication and monitoring is carried out by experienced and specially trained specialists. As part of emergency care, the IGE is also available around the clock outside of working hours with its on-call service.
In addition to patient care and clinical research, the IGE also fulfills essential tasks in the field of student teaching as well as medical training and advanced training.
