Your advanced training

Neuropaediatric nursing care

Duration of advanced training: 10 months

Start of advanced training: Annually in March

* During the self-study phases in blocks 2 and 3, individual lessons will take place via webinar.
Dates for these will be announced.

The next advanced training course is expected to start in the first quarter of 2027.

  • Nursing care professionals with a professional license in accordance with Section 1 of the Nursing Care Professions Act
  • One year of professional experience, of which at least six months in neuropaediatrics

  • Promoting critical thinking: Participants learn to analyze complex care situations, develop appropriate solutions and make scientifically sound decisions.
  • Practical relevance: By analyzing and working on real cases, participants develop the ability to transfer theoretical knowledge directly to practical situations.
  • Independence: Working on cases helps participants to work increasingly independently and prepare for unforeseen challenges.
  • Interdisciplinary cooperation: The approach promotes exchange and cooperation with other professional groups, which is crucial in neuropaediatrics.

Total scope: 216 teaching hours (80 hours in attendance 136 hours in self-study or online presence)

Blended learning: The theoretical lessons are offered both face-to-face and online as self-study or online presence via the ILIAS learning platform and the Webex video conferencing tool. Blended learning is a learning format that combines the advantages of face-to-face and online learning. Participants benefit from the flexibility of digital learning content, which they can work on regardless of time and place, and the personal interaction in face-to-face phases, which promotes the exchange and consolidation of what has been learned. This format allows students to learn at their own pace and supports the practical application of their knowledge.

Teaching times in the attendance phases: Mon-Fri, 8.30 am - 4.00 pm

Location during the attendance phases: Classrooms of the Academy for Medical Professions at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg

To participate in the blended learning format, participants need the following technical requirements:

  1. Computer or laptop: An up-to-date device with sufficient computing power.
  2. Internet connection: A stable and fast internet connection, ideally with broadband access.
  3. Web browser: An up-to-date web browser (e.g. Chrome, Firefox, Safari) for accessing our online learning platform ILIAS.
  4. Software: Any special software or apps required for the course (e.g. PDF reader, Office applications).
  5. Camera and microphone: For participation in virtual meetings or webinars.
  6. Headphones or speakers: For clear audio output during online sessions.

Basic digital skills (common Office programs, Internet use, virtual communication) are required. There must be a willingness to familiarize yourself with the required technologies.

The advanced training in neuropaediatrics concludes with a graded colloquium, which consists of a case study with written elaboration and oral presentation. This includes the presentation and discussion of the nursing care and treatment process of a child with complex neurological developmental disorders, taking into account nursing and interprofessional perspectives.
