Practice instructor

Duration of advanced training: 11 or 12 months (depending on the start of advanced training)

Start of advanced training: Mid-January (courses in Freiburg), new from 2026: Mid-September (1 course in Bad Krozingen, 1 course in Freiburg)

Application deadline (only applies to internal applicants): April 30 for the course starting in January, January 31 for the course starting in September

The next advanced training course is expected to start in January 2027.

The aim of advanced training is to enable students and new employees to provide competent support and guidance during practical training.
This includes the acquisition of technical, methodological, social and personal skills, as well as the ability to design, monitor and assess learning processes.


Total scope: 300 hours, divided into modules

Our advanced training is offered in modules. Modules are self-contained learning units. The content of the basic modules can be credited towards advanced training in intensive care, intermediate care, pediatric intensive care and anesthesia care.

The theoretical lessons take place in block weeks.

Teaching times: Mon-Fri, 8.30 am - 4.00 pm

Location: classrooms at the Academy for Medical Professions at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg and seminar rooms at the Bad Krozingen campus

Basic modules: 100 hours in total

The basic module teaches the content and basics of practical guidance. The special feature of this module is that it covers parts of other advanced training courses in nursing according to DKG. They address fundamental topics from the related sciences that go beyond the field of application.

Specialist modules in practical guidance: total: 200 hours

Specialist modules impart relevant specialized knowledge.

  • After successfully completing the advanced training, you will receive the certificate "Practice Instructor in Healthcare".
  • The advanced training concludes after passing two module examinations.

  • Participation is free of charge for employees of the hospital.
  • The course fee for external participants is €2,825.

  • The course comprises a total of 304 teaching units.
  • You will receive 30 continuing education points as part of the registration of professional nursing care staff.
