Extracellular Vesicles: Research and Translation

Extracellular Vesicles (EVs) are the research topic of our group. We examine the molecular mechanisms of regulating EV content and their functionality in tumor context; specifically, tetraspanins are in our focus. In interdisciplinary projects, we are working on the development of new innovative technologies for EV detection and characterization in body fluids; to study EVs under physiological conditions, we develop new physiological 3D cell and organoid models.

The unique feature of this fascinated research field is its high translational clinical value. We establish new methods and biomarkers for liquid-biopsy-based diagnosis of tumor- and infection diseases, monitoring, and prediction of therapy response. Furthermore, we develop novel EV biomimetic for targeted gene and drug delivery.

Motivated students can apply any time for Master, MD and PhD Thesis.

Teaching: Since 2013 we organize facultative course “Exosome biology” for Master in Molecular Medicine at the Medical Faculty of Alberts-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg
