What are you waiting for? We are looking for you! The research group of Dr. Lukas Amann, Institute of Neuropathology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Freiburg welcomes applications for a
PhD student postion (m/f/d)
We are offering a PhD position (TV-L, 65%) within the exciting, international and ambitious environment at the Institute of Neuropathology and the collaborative research center NeuroMac (TRR167). The position is initially available until the end of the TRR167 funding period, i.e. until the end of 2028 and should be filled as soon as possible.
The research group mainly studies the development and function of tissue macrophage in the central nervous system (CNS). Tissue macrophages are resident immune cells and found in nearly every tissue. They are well known to participate in immune reactions and in tissue repair, but they also serve a plethora of physiological functions to maintain tissue homeostasis. Primarily, we are interested to understand how CNS macrophages, specifically those located at the borders of the CNS, interact with their surrounding cellular niche and how they can be manipulated to positively influence CNS diseases.
We are offering a very exciting and fully funded project aimed to decipher the interaction of CNS macrophages with their neighboring cellular network, using transgenic mouse models. We will mainly employ diverse mouse model systems to follow and manipulate CNS macrophages and to mimic human disease. Analysis will include a wide range of different techniques including flow cytometry, transcriptomics, histology and high-resolution microscopy. The work will be highly collaborative and benefit from many interactions within and outside the Institute of Neuropathology. The position will be embedded within the very successful and highly collaborative research center NeuroMac (TRR167) with an integrated graduate school and regular activities that the applicant will be able to attend.
We are looking for a highly motivated and ambitious candidate with a strong interest in (neuro-)immunology and a huge commitment to scientific research who is willing to embark on our journey to explore the biology of tissue-resident CNS macrophages.
The candidate should hold a master’s degree in biology, biomedicine or an equivalent discipline. Experience in immunological methods, transcriptomic analyses or work with mice is desirable.
You are interested to apply? Interested candidates should upload a CV, a strong motivation letter and at least one reference letter. Please submit your application and relevant documents using the "Apply now"-Button.
