Model Regions Grant Program

Information Poster

Even under the most optimistic assumptions, there will still be a shortage of physician working hours in rural areas over the next 10 years, amounting to approximately 50% of the current supply. By intensifying medical training in various counties, medical students are to become familiar with medical practice in rural areas at an early stage and, furthermore, become enthusiastic about the advantages of the county and what it has to offer.

The long-term goal is to guide medical students early on toward living and working in rural regions and to ensure the long-term availability of primary care physicians in the district.  Against this backdrop, structures are to be created so that medical students decide to complete their internships in a district while still in school. During these placements, they are to establish contacts in the region with a view to possibly settling here permanently in the future.

To this end, the Ministry of Science, Research, and the Arts (MWK) is providing funding to the university.
