AGG complaints office for discrimination

Company complaints office in accordance with the General Equal Treatment Act (AGG) at the Medical Center – University of Freiburg

The Medical Center – University of Freiburg is committed to equal rights and non-discrimination.

Discrimination is not tolerated at the University Medical Center.

The legal basis for protection against and elimination of discrimination is provided by the General Equal Treatment Act (AGG). The aim of the Act is to prevent and eliminate discrimination on the grounds of ethnic origin, gender, religion or belief, disability, age, or sexual identity (Section 1 AGG).

In Section 13, the AGG grants employees a comprehensive right to complain about discrimination relating to one or more of the above characteristics. In such cases, all employees of the University Medical Center have the right to lodge a complaint with the UKF's internal complaints office.

Please note that the AGG complaints office does not provide advice on discrimination matters. The complaints procedure is a formal procedure of the hospital; in contrast to confidential counseling, the complainant is not entitled to confidential, anonymous treatment of the complaint.

The procedure can also be continued against the changed will of the person concerned, provided that the department is obliged to take action. This applies in particular in cases of criminal acts and/or conduct relevant to disciplinary law.

As part of an official procedure, the complaints office, headed by the Staff Unit Labor Law, examines whether there has been a violation of the prohibition of discrimination under Section 7 of the AGG, i.e., discrimination under the AGG. In doing so, the expertise of the contact points listed below at the UKF is consulted by the management of the complaints office. The UKF is responsible for ensuring that the complaint does not result in any personal or professional disadvantages for the persons concerned and their supporters.

The complaint can be submitted by mail, email, or verbally. The complaint should provide a comprehensive description of the incident and list any possible witnesses and evidence. In addition, it should be stated, if possible, which other persons have already been informed of the incidents and whether measures have already been taken. The complaint will then be reviewed promptly by the AGG complaints office.

If you are considering filing a complaint, we strongly recommend that you first seek confidential advice from one of the contact points listed below. Here you can obtain impartial advice in advance of the complaint procedure and on possible further options. If you decide to file a formal complaint, the contact points can assist you in drafting and submitting the complaint if you wish.
