EXTRACELLULAR VESICLES: RESEARCH and TRANSLATION

Our group investigates Extracellular Vesicles (EVs), specifically focusing on the molecular mechanisms of their action in physiological and pathological processes. We're keen on unravelling EV composition and function, especially concerning a specific role of the membrane proteins tetraspanins. To mimic complex organ conditions, we study EVs in advanced 3D – and organoid models.

Our research has significant translation potential, which includes active contribution to the development of new technologies and methods for EV isolation and detection, and establishment of new EV- associated biomarkers for liquid biopsies in different pathologies, including cancer, infectious and cardiovascular diseases. Additionally, together with our start-up company CapCoBio, we contribute to the development of new EV biomimetic, useful for drug, vaccine and gene delivery. In short, our work spans molecular insights, innovative technologies, and practical applications, all aimed at advancing EV knowledge and translating it into clinic and industry, improving healthcare.
