Nursing care - care for children and young people
Generalist nursing training combines the previous training courses in geriatric nursing, healthcare and nursing and healthcare and paediatric nursing. With the nursing qualification, you have the opportunity to work in numerous places such as hospitals, clinics, outpatient Departments of Nursing, geriatric care and rehabilitation facilities or even hospices. The qualification is recognized in all EU countries.
Specialization in paediatric care
Nurses with the professional qualification "Nursing specialist with specialization in paediatric care" have special skills in the nursing care and support of sick children and their caregivers - from premature babies to young adults.
With the specialization in paediatric care, you will have a significantly higher proportion of practical hours in our Center for Pediatrics. At the end of the second year of training, you also have the opportunity to choose between a further specialization in the third year of training with a degree in healthcare and paediatric nursing or a generalist degree.
With this specialization, you will provide young patients and their families with expert support for a wide range of illnesses. You will guide them with regard to medical and nursing measures and provide them with in-depth advice on questions of coping with illness, prevention and rehabilitation. They carry out medically prescribed measures independently and assist with diagnostic, therapeutic or rehabilitation measures. In the multi-professional healthcare team, they work together with other professional groups on an interdisciplinary basis and develop cross-professional solutions to health problems.

Desired school-leaving qualification
A-levels, secondary school leaving certificate or another equivalent school qualification, lower secondary school leaving certificate and at least two years of vocational training or one year of assistant or helper training in nursing care.
Duration & start of training
The three-year training course ends with a state final examination (oral, written and practical).
Training begins on February 1, April 1, July 1 or October 1.
Theoretical and practical training
We offer comprehensive theoretical training in a block system (at least 2,100 hours). All conventional social forms of teaching are used, e.g. problem-oriented learning, case work, practical exercises on models and project work.
We offer a wide range of practical training in various departments of the University Hospital as well as outside the University Hospital in long-term care and outpatient nursing care (at least 2,500 hours).
With the specialization in paediatric care, you will have a significantly higher proportion of practical hours in our Center for Pediatrics.
Training allowance
- 1st year of training: 1,517 euros
- 2nd year of training: 1,578 euros
- 3rd year of training: 1,674 euros
