Physiotherapist

Academy for Medical Professions

Movement and therapy

Physiotherapists are experts in movement and the human musculoskeletal system. Today, they work with people in almost all medical fields based on the ICF model. The aim is to rehabilitate people who are restricted in their ability to move as part of a wide range of therapeutic interventions. It is equally important for therapists to prevent illnesses that can arise from a lack of movement, for example, as part of preventative concepts. Physiotherapists train their patients' understanding of health.

Physiotherapists make therapeutic diagnoses, formulate therapy goals and develop goal-oriented therapy plans - always in cooperation with those affected, those seeking help and interested parties.

Most of the more than 150,000 (as of 2025) physiotherapists in Germany work in hospitals, rehabilitation clinics and competence centers.

Entry opportunities are also available in many other areas in which programs for health-promoting exercise are offered: in the wellness sector, in retirement homes as well as in daycare centers, in facilities for people with physical and mental disabilities or in fitness studios.

Duration & start of training
You will complete a three-year apprenticeship that ends with a state examination. Training starts on April 1 and October 1.

Theoretical and practical training
The field of physiotherapy is interesting and varied. A sound basic medical education and the learning of various physiotherapeutic examination and treatment techniques are the basis for a successful start to the profession. This requires professional competence, patient-oriented communication and integration into an interdisciplinary treatment team.

We teach the course content on the basis of a modularized curriculum. Our aim is to train you to become an effective physiotherapist during your training. We design our teaching to be skills-oriented in order to give you the opportunity to link content with each other from the outset and to be able to apply the knowledge you have acquired in different contexts of everyday professional life. In addition to teachers with extensive professional and pedagogical qualifications, you will be supported in your training by a large number of lecturers from the Uniklinik (specialists, physiotherapists, coaches).

We attach great importance to practical training, which takes place in the specialist clinics of the University Hospital, in other acute and rehabilitation hospitals, as well as in therapy centers and independent practices. This enables us to cover all areas of modern physiotherapy. With innovative and holistically oriented concepts, we prepare our trainees optimally for later requirements in the profession. During your practical training, you will receive extensive support and individual encouragement from physiotherapists and teachers at the physiotherapy school.
