Preparation and support
During your training as a surgical assistant, you will acquire the theoretical and practical skills you will need to work independently in the surgical service. You will also work in the emergency outpatient department, endoscopy and the Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD).
Working in the surgical service is an exciting and challenging field of work that is constantly changing due to new surgical procedures and technical developments.
In order to meet the diverse requirements of working as a surgical assistant, you should be able to work in a team and have manual dexterity. To ensure the safety of patients, reliability and a sense of responsibility are important prerequisites for the job.
Duration & start of training
You will complete a three-year apprenticeship, which ends with a state final examination. Training starts on January 1, May 1 and September 1.
Theoretical and practical training
Theoretical training by qualified teachers (at least 2,100 hours in a block system).
Practical training in the various departments of the University Hospital and outside the University Hospital (3,000 hours).
Training allowance
- 1st year of training: 1,517 euros
- 2nd year of training: 1,578 euros
- 3rd year of training: 1,674 euros

- Careful way of working
- Sense of responsibility and willingness to take responsibility
- Ability to work in a team
Desired school-leaving qualification
Abitur, intermediate school leaving certificate or other equivalent school education
