Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS)

The Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS) is an approved treatment method for treatment-resistant depression (TRD). TRD means that the symptoms were not remitted after the treatment with conventional treatment methods such as psychopharmakons and psychotherapy. The VNS is an invasive treatment. Electrodes are implanted at the vagus nerve in the section of the left throat to stimulate the vagus nerve. The stimulator is implanted in the region of the clavicle and is connected to the electrodes by a cable that lays under the skin. The stimulation parameters (frequency and amplitude) can be adapted through the stimulator.
