Computational Medicine Research Group

Population-based biomedical science has seen a rapid development in recent years with respect to measurement technologies (omics quantification), data availability (mega biobank-scale datasets such as UK Biobank and NAKO), and the methods available to analyze at this sample size and resolution.

We aim to develop the methods to gain insights into the physiology and pathophysiology of complex traits and diseases, with a particular focus on causal inference, integrative omics, and large-scale genetic studies.

We are a small, friendly, highly collaborative international research group of passionate scientists with a range of backgrounds and interdisciplinary skills. Our core interest involves statistical genomics and molecular epidemiology to advance translational medicine.

If you are interested in our projects or want to explore potential collaborations, please contact PD Dr. Pascal Schlosser.

Our research is supported by the German Research Foundation. The group was founded as part of the DFG Emmy Noether Programme (GEPRIS, SCHL 2292/3–1) and we are part of the Collaborative Research Centers 1453 (NephGen) and 1597 (Small Data) and of Germany’s Excellence Strategy CIBSS (EXC-2189, CIBSS).

The CRCs and excellence cluster at the University of Freiburg aim to understand mechanisms underlying complex diseases and to develop the methods to do so and generate optimal synergies with our research agenda.
