Welcome to the Light Imaging Facility at IMITATE

The Bio Imaging Core Light Microscopy (BiMiC) is an open platform that enables researchers to perform leading-edge microscopy. The Platform aims to advance optical imaging throughout the Medical Faculty of the University of Freiburg. It is a major tool in the bench-to-patient back-and-forth research for novel therapies. The platform is located at the Institute for Disease Modeling and Targeted Medicine (IMITATE) where it plays a decisive role in the integrated multimodal imaging strategy of the institute.

The BiMiC is paired with the Lighthouse Core Facility offering a range of cutting-edge microscopes for imaging of live and fixed samples from various model organisms (Xenopus, Zebrafisch, C. elegans and Drosophila) and patients.

The BiMiC has a variety of tools and knowledgeable experts ready to help and guide research teams in all areas of optical imaging, from education to the creation of analysis pipelines.

Zeiss Axioscan 7

Efficient slide scanner for polarization, bright field, and fluorescence imaging. It can scan up to 100 slides with various profiles and imaging modes in a single pass. The system is a part of the ZEN imaging software ecosystem, giving users access to a wide range of extra processing and analysis capabilities.

Zeiss Cell discoverer 7 with LSM 900 Airyscan Confocal

High-end imaging fully integrated system offering a range of incubation and detection choices. The Zeiss CD7 combines traditional inverted microscope picture quality and flexibility with the user-friendly automation of a boxed microscope. Celldiscoverer 7 adjusts the optics automatically, calibrates itself, and detects and focuses your samples.

Zeiss LSM 980 Airyscan2 with multiphoton excitation

Confocal 4D imaging platform with optical sectioning, minimal phototoxicity, and quick processing. Two photon excitation microscopy allows imaging relatively thick samples (up to about 1 mm thickness). Ideal for photoconversion and tissue ablation.
