Block Clinical Rotation in General Practice
Since 2004, the General Practice Block Clinical Rotation has been a required course for all students. During the three-week block clinical rotation, students spend a total of 10 days observing in an academic teaching practice, supplemented by seminars on campus and the development of a portfolio.
The block internship is designed to cover certain learning objectives that are mandatory for all students. To this end, the “Freiburg Handbook” and a catalog of learning objectives have been created. In addition, there is room for practice owners to tailor the content to their specific needs.
Here you will find information about the block internship and the Freiburg Handbook. All other information (e.g., regarding the teaching practices) is available to students in a secure area on medicAL.
Through the “Model Regions” project, individual counties, in collaboration with the Institute of General Medicine, offer medical students the opportunity to experience general practice in rural areas as part of the general medicine block internship.

Students who have been assigned to a general practice block rotation through the Office of the Dean of Studies will receive a notification via ILIAS at the beginning of the respective semester with the registration details (Block 1 may be earlier).
Practice assignments are made via an ILIAS survey. Priorities can be indicated there. A list of the practices participating in the respective internship is also available there.
Practices in Freiburg are reserved primarily for students with children; if any Freiburg practices remain available, they will be allocated by lottery among the additional applicants.
