Institute for Transfusion Medicine and Gene Therapy (ITG)
The Institute for Transfusion Medicine and Gene Therapy (ITG) supplies the University Medical Center with blood products and all transfusion and transplantation related diagnostic services. The institute's research efforts focus on the development and evaluation of safe platforms for the manufacturing of advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs) using gene editing technologies.
The combination of an established facility for the GMP-compliant production of hemotherapies with specialized scientists in developing ATMPs provides an ideal environment for establishing new perspectives in cell and gene therapy for patients suffering from rare immunodeficiencies, HIV infection and certain types of cancer.
The ITG comprises:
- the Blood Donation Center
- the Laboratory for Immunogenetics and Transplant Immunology
- the Laboratory for Immunhematology and Blood Group Serology
- the Quality Control Laboratory
- the Research and Development Unit
