Clinical Data Science: Data to Decision in Kidney Care
Frederic Arnold & Janis Nolde
Digital healthcare is generating clinical information at an unprecedented pace — from electronic health records and real-world data to imaging and omics technologies. Yet turning this information into reliable evidence remains a major challenge.
Our group focuses on transforming complex, heterogeneous health data into high-quality, analysis-ready datasets. We develop rigorous statistical and computational methods to ensure that advanced analytics translate into trustworthy, clinically meaningful results.
By combining expertise in biostatistics, computer science, bioinformatics, and clinical medicine, we bridge the gap between data science and kidney care. Our goal is to generate reproducible insights and predictive models that directly support evidence-based clinical decision-making. Embedded in a broad collaborative network across the Freiburg campus and partner institutions, we work closely with experts of other domains.
We welcome master students and doctoral candidates who are motivated to develop expertise in clinical data science. Trainees gain hands-on experience in data extraction and curation, preprocessing and quality assessment, statistical modeling, and scientific publication. Working primarily with R and Python in an evolving research environment, trainees become active contributors to the projects while building skillsets for academic and clinical careers.
