Research Interests:

  • Development of novel instruments for scientific studies and medical testing, and experimental muscle physiology 
  • Investigation of the underlying physiology of cardiac muscle, changes present in disease states, and the effect of pharmacological agents on muscle function 
  • Electrical coupling between myocytes and non-myocytes 
  • Treatments following myocardial infarction

Brief CV:

Callum Zgierski-Johnston received his PhD in bioengineering from the University of Auckland (2010-2014). After finishing his thesis on 'Heat Sensing in Muscle Calorimetry' at the Auckland Bioengineering Institute in 2014, he joined the Cardiac Biophysics and Systems Biology group at the Imperial College London as a post-doctoral researcher in 2015. Since 2016 Callum Zgierski-Johnston heads the Bioinstrumentation / Experimental Imaging section at the IEKM in Freiburg.
