Section Clinical Virus Genomics
We work at the intersection of diagnostics, bioinformatics, and clinical virology with the overall aim to improve patient care. We closely collaborate with our diagnostic unit and the Konsiliarlabor for HSV, CMV and VZV.
Custom diagnostic services
We offer whole genome sequencing from virus stocks and patient material to analyse resistance-associated mutations, virus evolution, within-hospital transmission chains and the epidemiology of viral pathogens. Therefore, we utilize in-house next generation sequencing and bioinformatics.
We are proficient in sequencing and analysing a variety of pathogens and continuously improve our methodology. This includes all previously isolated and cultured DNA and RNA viruses (such as Mpox, HSV-1, SARS-CoV-2, adenovirus or influenza viruses). We also apply targeted tiled sequencing for specific viral pathogens from patient samples (HSV-1 UL23/UL30, Hepatitis E and SARS-CoV-2).
Research question
The section clinical virus genomics has multiple research projects involving epidemiology, clinical virology, virus ecology and computational genomics.
