Dr. rer. nat cand. Elena Meier
Doctoral researcher (Optogenetik)
Research Interests:
- Development of optogenetic approaches for functionally dissecting electrical interactions between cardiomyocytes and intracardiac neurons
Brief CV:
Elena Meier studied Biomedical Sciences, completing her Bachelor’s degree at Reutlingen University followed by a Master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences at Albstadt-Sigmaringen University. During her Master’s studies, she investigated advanced air-liquid interface cultures of human oligodendrocyte spheroids to study cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying ionizing radiation-induced disruption of central nervous system function. After graduation, she joined Boston Scientific Medizintechnik GmbH in 2022, where she worked as a Clinical Specialist with focus on transcatheter aortic valve implantations (TAVI). In January 2026, Elena joined the Optogenetic group at IEKM as a doctoral researcher. Elena's project focusses on neuron-cardiomyocyte interactions and is part of the DFG-funded research group FOR5807.
