Gut products account for approximately 10% of the human metabolome, which is unknown terrain in terms of impacting signaling pathways and interaction in human organs. Metabolites have an impact on neuroimmunological, cellular, and molecular processes that precede persistent diseases such as neurodegeneration. To uncover novel therapeutic targets and biomarkers, we are interested in defining causal multi-mechanism pathways throughout the gut-brain and other gut-organ axis that are linked to possible clinically significant outcomes. We employ a diverse collection of methods for metabolite identification and pathway characterization, including translational in-vivo animal models, in-vitro experiments, multi-omics analysis, electrophysiological, morphological screening, and human tissue.
