Support groups for people with the same disease are an opportunity to exchange information and experiences independently without professional guidance as well as to give and receive emotional support. Find out more (in German)

Diagnosis, Treatment, & Trials

We are a recognized center for the treatment of patients with acute leukemias and their precursors. The Comprehensive Cancer Center – CCCF is a German Cancer Society–certified oncology center in the area of hematologic neoplasms.
Various diagnostic laboratories are available at the Freiburg University Medical Center to provide precise, reliable, and prompt routine diagnoses of hematologic diseases.

Whereas young patients are treated with intensive chemotherapy in our therapy sessions or with standard therapy, elderly patients first receive a careful evaluation of their health status in order to determine whether standard chemotherapy is an option.

The Medical Center – University of Freiburg is also one of the largest and most experienced stem-cell transplantation centers (in German) in Germany.
In recent years, CAR T cell therapy (in German) has gained in importance for the treatment of leukemias.

Trials

In clinical trials, we test new drugs designed to improve the standard therapy – under strict monitoring by the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices. The Competence Center for Leukemias and Preleukemias is among the leading clinical trial centers in the therapy of elderly patients with leukemias, MDS, or MPN in particular. Clinical leukemia research at the Medical Center – University of Freiburg is supported by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and German Cancer Aid, among other organizations.
