Dr. rer. nat. cand. Stephanie Schmid

Doctoral researcher (4D Imaging)

Research Interests:

  • Characterisation of cardiac fibroblast function and structure
  • Communication between cardiac fibroblasts and cardiomyocytes especially through tunnelling nanotubes
  • Characterisation of cardiac fibroblast borne tunnelling nanotubes, how they are involved in fibrotic processes and how that could be used to steer fibrotic remodelling after injury

Brief CV:

Stephanie received her Bachelors degree in Biology at the Eberhard Karls University Tübingen. She obtained her Master of Science at the University of Saarland where she focused on molecular and immunological approaches for characterising progenitor cell populations of the murine liver. After working on Fibroblastic Reticular Cells in lymph nodes and their function in immunity at the University Hospital Bonn she joined the 4D Imaging group at the IEKM in November 2020 as a PhD student where she focuses on cardiac fibroblasts.
