Clinical Trial Design

Responsibilities within the Institute

The division Studies and Statistical Consultancy specialises in helping domain experts to match their research question with the optimal study design and endpoints, including innovative design approaches where appropriate. The Section Health Care Research develops study designs specifically for health services research questions.

Selected projects

  • The MinDial project evaluates minimisation of dialysis risk in hospital patients with chronic kidney disease in a multicentre, stepped-wedge, cluster-randomised controlled trial.

  • Qualy-GAIN is a sub-project of the German Auto-Immune Network and investigates whether the fulfilment of patient preferences is associated with a better self-reported health status and whether the feedback of the results to the treatment team leads to more patient-centred care.

  • In the project Reduction of nursing-relevant risks of elderly patients in and after a stay in an acute hospital, a controlled randomised study is being conducted with approx. 600 patients at the University Medical Centre Freiburg. The aim is to maintain the quality of life and independence of older patients through screening and an individually tailored prevention programme.
